When we joined Alpha Phi as collegian women, we took an oath to seek the highest ideals of womanhood and the spirits of love and charity. We took a solemn pledge to lend a helping hand to one another. The Denver Alumnae of Alpha Phi believe we should continue to embrace these ideals after graduation as we grow in our adult lives by engaging within our local communities to make our world a better place. The Alumnae Group works to support these ideals by planning quarterly service opportunities for our members in the Denver metro area, by raising funds for the Alpha Phi Foundation, and by providing assistance through contributions to the Forget Me Not Fund when specific needs arise like the devastating flooding in Houston in 2017.
The Denver Alumnae of Alpha Phi are dedicated to supporting and improving the local community where we live and work. In 2017, the Alumnae Chapter launched its Saturday Service initiative which aims to plan quarterly service events for the general membership. From 2017-2019, the Chapter partnered with Colorado Department of Transportation to clean and beautify a stretch of highway in Morrison, Colorado. In the 2019-2021 Biennium, the Denver Alumnae of Alpha Phi plans to continue supporting some familiar organizations while developing ties with several new non-profit friends.
Newborns in Need
Denver Health Foundation’s Newborns in Need program comes to the rescue for expecting families who are struggling to make ends meet. Thanks to generous donors and volunteers, Newborns in Need collects thousands of new baby items to fill “Warm Welcome” bags that are given to new moms and dads who really need and appreciate this extra help. In addition to the Warm Welcome Bags, Newborns in Need also provides car seats, strollers, cribs and many more items to families that are in serious need.
Dress for Success
Since 2006, Dress for Success Denver has transformed the lives of over 16,000 women and distributed more than $1,000,000 in clothing and accessories. Dress for Success provides at-risk women with job readiness tools, professional attire and post employment support to assist them in their efforts to achieve economic self-sufficiency. The organization facilitates programs to help their clients gain employment; stay employed; achieve promotions and raises; participate in valuable networking and leadership opportunities; strengthen financial literacy; and embrace life-long learning as they move towards economic independence.
Collegian Study Bags
Each year as the Spring semester comes to an end, the Denver Alumnae of Alpha Phi host our annual Study Bag Care Package fundraiser. Parents, family, and friends have the opportunity to send a Study Bag to the special Alpha Phi collegian woman in their life. The Denver Alumnae of Alpha Phi assemble and deliver the Study Bag Care Packages to the collegian women in our four, Colorado Alpha Phi Chapters in time for each University’s respective finals weeks. The purpose of these surprise gifts are to help ease the stress of finals by letting our collegian women know that parents and alumnae alike are thinking of them and cheering for them.
